Prabhu Deva shot to fame with his dance moves that got him tagged as the Michael Jackson of India. He is a choreographer, director and actor.
Basics on Prabhu Deva
Prabhu Deva was born on 3rd April 1973. He is a Kannadiga born in Mysore, Karnataka, India. His father Mugur Sundar was also a choreographer, as are his two brothers, Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad.
He is married to Latha with whom he had three sons Vishal, Rishi Raghavendra and Aditya. His son Vishal succumbed to cancer in 2008.
Prabhu Deva’s Movies
In the 90s Prabhu Deva started as a choreographer with Vetri Vizha. He appeared in song sequences like ‘April Mayile’ in Idhayam (1991) and Gentleman’s (1993) ‘Chikku Bukku Raiyle’, which became an instant hit.
With his growing popularity he landed a role in Kadhalan (1994) with Nagma. In Rajiv Menon’s Minsara Kanavu (1997) he was seen with Arvind Swamy and Kajol as Deva, a barber. The movie earned him a National Film Award for Best Choreography. He acted with Kamal Hasan in Kadhala Kadhala (1998)
2000 Onwards He was seen with Madhuri Dixit in Pukar (2000) for the song ‘Que Sera Sera’. In 2002, he acted in 123 with his brothers, Charlie Chaplin with Prabhu and in Rajnikanth’s Baba for the song ‘Baba Kichchu’. The Telugu movie Santosham which also starred Nagarjuna, Shriya Saran and Gracy Singh did extremely well.
He handled the choreography for Farhan Akhtar’s Lakshya (2004) which had Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in lead roles. This won him another National Film Award for Best Choreography.
He directed the hit movie Pokkiri (2007) with Vijay and Asin which was a love story mixed up with the real estate mafia. Villu (2009) with Nayantara and Vijay didn’t do that well at the box office.
He is remaking Pokkiri in Bollywood as Wanted Dead and Alive (2009) with Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in the lead. He has not quit acting altogether and will be back in Kalavadiya Pozhudugal (2010) with Bhumika Chawla.
