Goundamani is a famour comedian in Tamil film industry.  He is famous for his insult comedies in Tamil cinema.He was the most interested and sought after comedian before the arrival of Vadivel and Vivek.  Jagghubai is his last film. He is renowned for his acts with Senthil in the Tamil cinema.

His role with Rajnikanth in the movie ‘Baba’ and with Arjun in the movie ‘Gentleman’ are pretty popular. He has done an almost a second hero kind of role in the Shankar-Arjun combo ‘Gentleman’ and Ullathai Allitha along with Karthik and Unakaaga ellam unakaaga.  He is a famous face for someone who watches Rajinikanth and Kamal Hasan movies, especially in the 1990 decade ones.

Early life and career

Goundamani was born in Kannampalayam which is a village in Coimbatore,Tamil Nadu. He has a strong Theatrical background and this has made his entry into Tamil film industry, the kollywood of Indian cinema very easy. His original name is Mani. He is very famous with his role Oor-Gounder in one his stage plays and from then he has been called as Goundamani.He was 26 when he entered the films and until then he was doing stage shows in various parts of Tamil Nadu. He is known for his own way of Tamil dialogue delivery.

Goundamani was initially doing a solo act and then paired up with Senthil to form a comedy duo. He along with Senthil are referred as Kollywood’s Laurel and Hardy. They have entertained the Tamil people with their hillarious shows for more than two decades now. Goundamani has entertained almost two generations of Tamil audience with his own and unique style of comedy. His dialogues are accompained with imeccable timing and body language. He is known for his own style of satires on screen.

In the 90’s his career peaked in such a way that it was hard to make a hit Tamil film without him.He has also acted as Hero in 10 films. Although few of them got applauds, he has considered himself as comedian to spread smiles on the Tamil faces.

His famous dialogue Arasiyalla ithellam satharnamappa (meaning this is common in politics), from the movie Suriyan later became one of his trademarks. He is also famous for his “Vazhaipazham” (Banana) joke with Senthil in the film Karagattakaran.

Some of his unforgettable movies are with lead actors such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, Sathyaraj, Vijay, Karthik,  Arjun, Parthiban, Ajith Kumar, Jayaram,   Prabhu and Sarath Kumar. He has even accompanied as the lead actor in several Tamil films and in a few songs.
