What Career Can't You Walk out on

 It's Friday night. You have sat through the dreary and gloomy news. The Euro Millions draw is on. You get out the lucky dip that you bought from the petrol station on the way home from work. Your heartbeat is increasing as you peer at your ticket and you have the first three numbers. You are now in a state of shock as all the numbers drawn are yours. Surely not, this can't be occurring. Just two lucky stars to show up now and, oh my word, expletives come raining out of your mouth. You've only gone and won over 50 million pounds. OK it's the next day, you work Saturdays, what do you do? Well most of us would definitely not go to work. But what if you had a job you couldn't surrender?

What if you were the Prime Minister? Could you just not turn up to your next meeting? It's not as if you are an insurance sales person selling temporary or one day car insurance. (Hey, I had to get the link in somehow). You have a state to manage. Does the prime minister have a notice period I wonder? Does he buy a lottery ticket?



Do people serving in the armed forces buy lottery tickets? They couldn't just not turn up the next day, as far as I am aware, going AWOL is still not encouraged. But how could you carry on doing your duty knowing you had 50 million quid in the bank?

Why my obsession with the lottery today in this post? Well I could try to tie in some spurious link to car insurance , describing the gamble of insurance as a lottery. Or I could just list the truth which is that with Christmas coming, money is on the mind. All those presents to buy, all the mouths to feed, all the bills to pay. A big payout from the lottery would certainly make for an interesting and different Christmas. So good luck. Keep your fingers crossed and you never know, stranger things have happened.



OK not really a job, but what if you were buying a lottery ticket via a subscription online. Then you end up in prison. Your subscription carreis on and you pick up the big one. How frustrating would that be? Or maybe being in jail would give you a chance to get some perspective and focus. Perhaps you would keep your win to yourself.

Do the folks that present the lottery shows purchase a ticket? I guess it would be easy for them to leave if they were to win. But imagine quitting live on the Box as your numbers are drawn.

Winning the lottery will stay for most of us sadly a pipe dream. A dream that in my opinion is well worth paying for. It is an excellent way to get off to sleep, fantasizing about what you could do with all that capital. All the things you could buy, all the people you could help out, all the fun and games you could have. But of course people do win it. As they say, you have to be in it to win it.
