Alanis Morissette Biography
Alanis Morissette was born in June 1, 1974 in Ottawa Canada. At an early age, Alanis became passionate about music, playing the piano and drum set at age 6. When she turned 10 in 1984, Morissette has already written her first song “Fate Stay With Me,” which she sent to Lindsay Morgan, a local folk singer who then recruited the young Alanis as her protégé. Morgan and Alanis co-founded a label and released “Fate Stay with Me” as a single, followed by a regular casting on a Nickelodeon show, “You Can’t Do That on Television.”

Morissette came to New York for a “Star Search” audition, landed a spot on the talent competition, but lost after one round. However, this did not stop Alanis from pursuing her love for music. By 1988, Alanis signed a publishing deal with the MCA Publishing, which in turn, helped in funding a record deal with MCA Records Canada. About Alanis Morissette
At 10 years old, Alanis Morisette has already written her first song entitled “Fate Stay with Me”, which made her local folk singer Lindsay Morgan’s protégé. Although the song received little airplay, Morisette was cast regularly on the Nickelodeon Show, “You Can’t Do That on Television”. She tried her luck on Star Search, but lost after one round. By age 14, Alanis signed a publishing deal with MCA Publishing, helping her fund a record deal with one of the publisher’s independent subsidiary labels. By 1991, Alanis Morisette’s self-titled, dance-pop debut album was released in Canada and the album went platinum, leading to several award nominations and wins. In 1992, Alanis released her second album, a ballad-themed record entitled “Now is the Time” again only in Canada. After Morisette’s contract with MCA ended, she moved to Los Angeles, met Glen Ballard who collaborated in making the album, Jagged Little Pill and signed a record deal with Maverick Records, which released the album internationally in 1995.
