There's a method for doing everything in online marketing, and building your base of RSS subscribers is a method for building consistent traffic that returns to your site. So today we want to talk about three commonly used approaches to realize more RSS subscribers.
Of course it all depends on your market and their needs, but in general it's always best to write so people can quickly scan your pages. Let's face it, people nowadays don't have much time when they're online. So there are priorities and needs; people need to move on, and at the same time they want to find what is important to them so they can read it. If you write your content so it's scannable and clear, then you know people will have a much easier time reading it. Consider what your site content will be like if it's in an RSS feed reader. A lot of people are in the habit of subscribing to RSS feeds, and all that means is your feed will have to compete with other feeds. If your copy (or content) is scannable, then people will be inclined to do that even after they subscribe. When you format your content so it's easy to scan, then that reduces eye strain which is important.
You can further help yourself and your visitors by writing-up a little something to explain RSS and what they need to do. It's easy to forget that most people are not as techy as us, and depending on your niche they could be completely clueless. Test it out; if you think they need help then just write-up something and see if it helps. Going a step further, you can write an article that demystifies RSS feed readers, and then shows them how to get one, etc. Most people have never heard of feed readers and why they're cool to use, etc. Help them out by telling them of the more popular feed readers and that they have options. Don't ever send your visitors to a lower quality service for obvious reasons.
If you have comments on your blog, then approach them and ask them to subscribe. Obviously that is very easy to do, and once again you never know until you try. When you think about it, it only makes sense that your blog commenters would want to sign-up to your RSS feed. When you contact them, just present it directly and professionally. That is one approach to interacting with people who visit your blog. You want to find the balance between being rude (too blunt) and wasting their time with a long, rambling email. Everyone wants to be treated with respect, and that is how you should treat them.
